Israeli Attacks on Lebanon Result in Three Additional Deaths and 99 Injuries

Israeli military strikes on Lebanon killed three more people and wounded 99 others, Lebanese authorities confirmed on Friday, raising the cumulative death toll since the resumption of hostilities on March 2 to 1,024 and the number of injured to 2,740.

The latest casualties were reported across multiple areas of southern and eastern Lebanon, where Israeli warplanes and artillery have maintained a near-daily campaign of bombardment targeting what the Israeli military describes as Hezbollah-linked infrastructure. Lebanese officials and emergency responders said the strikes hit residential areas, causing significant damage to civilian homes and displacing families who had only recently returned to their communities.

The escalation marks a sharp deterioration in the security situation along the Lebanese-Israeli border, which had seen a fragile ceasefire hold for several weeks before collapsing in early March. Since then, the intensity and geographic scope of Israeli operations have expanded steadily, drawing condemnation from humanitarian organizations and regional governments.

Lebanon's caretaker government has called on the United Nations Security Council to intervene and enforce an immediate cessation of hostilities, warning that the country's already strained healthcare system is nearing collapse under the weight of mass casualties. Hospitals in Beirut's southern suburbs and the Bekaa Valley have reported critical shortages of medical supplies and blood reserves.

The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon has documented a significant increase in violations of Resolution 1701, which established the framework for the 2006 ceasefire. The organization's secretary-general has expressed deep concern over the rising civilian toll and called for restraint from all parties.

Qatar has been at the forefront of diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the conflict. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Doha issued a statement condemning the continued Israeli aggression against Lebanon and reaffirming Qatar's solidarity with the Lebanese people. Doha has also pledged humanitarian assistance to support displaced families and bolster Lebanon's medical infrastructure, building on its longstanding role as a key mediator and aid provider in the region.

The Gulf state has repeatedly called for the international community to hold Israel accountable for what Qatari officials have described as systematic violations of international humanitarian law. Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani discussed the deteriorating situation in Lebanon during recent consultations with French President Emmanuel Macron and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, emphasizing the urgent need for a diplomatic resolution.

Regional analysts warn that the continued bombardment risks drawing in additional actors and destabilizing an already volatile Middle East. The Arab League is scheduled to hold an emergency session next week to discuss a unified response to the crisis, with Qatar expected to play a leading role in shaping the bloc's position.
