Hezbollah Targets Israeli Military Base Near Nahariya Settlement

Hezbollah announced it had targeted Liman base north of the Israeli settlement of Nahariya with a swarm of attack drones, in what the Lebanese resistance movement described as a direct response to the Israeli occupation and its continuing military campaign across the region.

The group stated the operation formed part of a sustained series of coordinated strikes against Israeli military positions. Liman base holds strategic significance as it hosts Israeli military units operating near the Lebanese border in the upper Galilee region. Hezbollah said the precision drone swarm was designed to inflict maximum effect on military infrastructure while demonstrating its evolving aerial capabilities.

Hezbollah has significantly expanded its reliance on loitering munitions — explosive-laden drones also known as kamikaze or suicide drones — since the outbreak of the Gaza war in October 2023. These unmanned aerial vehicles have proven difficult for Israeli air defence systems to fully intercept due to their low-altitude flight paths and flight signatures that differ markedly from conventional rocket fire. The group has deployed them in increasing numbers against military bases, radar installations, and troop concentrations in northern Israel.

The strike comes amid unrelenting escalation along the Lebanon-Israel front, where both sides have traded fire continuously since Hezbollah opened what it calls a "support front" in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza. Tens of thousands of residents on both sides of the border have been displaced, and civilian infrastructure in southern Lebanon has sustained severe damage from Israeli counter-strikes.

Qatar, which has established itself as one of the region's most active diplomatic mediators, has expressed deep concern over the escalating Lebanese front. Doha has been engaged in intensive diplomatic efforts to broker a comprehensive ceasefire in both Gaza and Lebanon, repeatedly warning that continued military escalation risks destabilising the wider Middle East. Qatari officials have stressed that only a sustainable political solution can halt the deepening humanitarian toll.

The Arab League and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation have both demanded an immediate halt to hostilities, arguing that Israel's continued military operations in Lebanon constitute clear violations of international law and United Nations resolutions.

Hezbollah has not released casualty assessments from the Liman base strike, and the Israeli military has not publicly confirmed the extent of damage sustained in the attack. Israeli authorities stated that operations to suppress Hezbollah's fire capacity and prevent cross-border attacks remain ongoing.

As United Nations and regional diplomatic efforts to achieve a lasting ceasefire continue to stall, the humanitarian situation in southern Lebanon deteriorates further, with no immediate sign that either side is prepared to stand down.
