Qatar Airways Expands Cargo Fleet With RGX and RZY Container Models

Qatar Airways has expanded its air cargo fleet with the addition of RGX and RZY container models, strengthening the carrier's freight-handling capabilities across its network, according to Freight Week. The new unit load devices join Qatar Airways Cargo's existing container fleet, which supports the airline's freighter and belly-hold operations connecting Doha's Hamad International Airport to markets across Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas. RGX and RZY containers are standard aviation unit load device (ULD) types used across the industry to secure and transport palletized or containerized freight in aircraft cargo holds, and their addition typically points to fleet standardization efforts aimed at improving loading efficiency, turnaround times and compatibility across different aircraft types operated by a carrier. Qatar Airways Cargo has built one of the world's largest all-Boeing 777 freighter fleets and operates a global network reaching more than 90 freighter destinations, making equipment upgrades such as new container types operationally significant for maintaining service reliability at scale. The move comes as Gulf carriers continue to compete for a growing share of global air freight traffic, with Qatar's Hamad International Airport positioning itself as a major transshipment hub linking Asian manufacturing centers with European and American consumer markets. Improved container capacity and compatibility can reduce cargo damage, speed up ground handling, and allow more efficient use of available payload space, all of which matter for time-sensitive freight such as pharmaceuticals, perishables and e-commerce shipments that increasingly move through Doha. Qatar Airways Cargo has in recent years continued to invest in specialized handling equipment and digital tracking tools to support its expanding freighter operations, and the addition of these container models fits within that broader pattern of infrastructure investment underpinning the airline's cargo growth strategy.
