Qatar Museums Announce Fall 2026 Program: Design Doha and First Art Quadrennial

Qatar Museums has unveiled its Fall 2026 program, an expansive season running from September through November that brings together more than 15 exhibitions across venues in Doha. The centerpiece additions are Design Doha 2026, the organization's flagship platform for regional design and creativity, and Rubaiya Qatar, which debuts as the country's first contemporary art quadrennial. The fall lineup builds on Qatar Museums' established strategy of pairing large-scale international showcases with platforms dedicated to Gulf and regional artists and designers, a model the institution has used in prior years to position Doha as a cultural hub linking the Middle East with global art and design circuits. Design Doha, now in a subsequent edition, has previously drawn architects, product designers and craftspeople from across the region to exhibit alongside international names, using Doha's museum infrastructure — including venues tied to the Qatar Museums network — to stage talks, installations and commissioned works. Rubaiya Qatar's launch as a quadrennial marks a structural addition to that calendar, giving contemporary art a recurring four-year cycle comparable to major quadrennials elsewhere, rather than a one-off showcase. Qatar Museums, chaired by Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad Al Thani, has for over a decade used exhibitions, museum openings and cultural programming as a pillar of the country's soft-power and economic diversification strategy, alongside sectors like energy and sport. The scale of this fall season — more than 15 exhibitions running concurrently over a three-month window — reflects continued investment in that strategy as Qatar seeks to sustain the cultural momentum built since hosting the 2022 FIFA World Cup and expanding institutions such as the National Museum of Qatar and Msheireb Museums.
