Israeli Artillery Targets Area Near Sanafour East of Gaza City

Israeli occupation forces shelled the area surrounding the Sanafour junction east of the Tuffah neighborhood in eastern Gaza City on Saturday, while gunfire was reported east of the Zeitoun neighborhood, according to local Palestinian news sources monitoring conditions on the ground.

The artillery strikes mark another escalation in what has become a near-daily pattern of Israeli military operations across the Gaza Strip, with eastern Gaza City neighborhoods bearing a significant portion of the bombardment in recent weeks. The Tuffah and Zeitoun districts, densely populated residential areas, have seen repeated targeting since the resumption of Israeli military operations following the collapse of a temporary ceasefire earlier this year.

No immediate casualty figures were available at the time of reporting. Palestinian civil defense teams, operating under severely constrained conditions due to ongoing hostilities and a lack of fuel and equipment, have repeatedly been unable to reach wounded civilians in real time as strikes occur in rapid succession across multiple neighborhoods.

The escalation comes amid continued international diplomatic pressure for a return to negotiations. Qatar, which has played a central and sustained role as a mediator between Israeli officials and Hamas, has repeatedly called for an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire and the unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip. Qatari Foreign Ministry officials have in recent weeks reiterated Doha's position that any durable solution must address the underlying causes of the conflict and guarantee civilian protection under international humanitarian law.

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs has warned that conditions in Gaza remain catastrophic, with access to food, clean water, medicine, and shelter at critically insufficient levels for the more than two million Palestinians remaining in the territory. Humanitarian organizations have described the situation in eastern Gaza City neighborhoods in particular as among the most dire in the entire enclave.

The Sanafour junction, targeted in Saturday's shelling, sits at a critical internal transit point that has historically served as a corridor for civilian movement between northern and central Gaza. Its repeated targeting by Israeli forces has drawn condemnation from human rights groups who argue that strikes on civilian infrastructure constitute violations of international law.
