Israeli Settlers, Occupation Forces Destroy Dozens of Palestinian Memorials in West Bank

Israeli settlers and occupation forces destroyed numerous Palestinian memorials in the West Bank on Wednesday, intensifying efforts to erase symbols of national memory amid ongoing violence. The demolitions took place in several locations, including Nablus, Jenin, and Yaabad, where memorials dedicated to Palestinian martyrs were specifically targeted.

Witnesses reported that Israeli forces raided Nablus early in the morning, systematically tearing down memorials. This destruction coincided with the anniversary of the October 7 conflict, further heightening tensions in the region. In a separate incident, a 44-year-old Palestinian man was killed during clashes with settlers while harvesting olives, and at least 16 others were injured in related violence.

Reports indicate that Israeli forces also dismantled a monument at Birzeit University, which commemorated students and alumni killed by Israeli actions. The university's Martyrs' Monument was replaced with a fig sapling, symbolizing the ongoing struggle against the erasure of Palestinian history. In a notable act, Israeli lawmaker Zvi Sukkot was seen using a sledgehammer to destroy a memorial near Nablus, despite claims from the Israeli army that such demolitions were not authorized.

This wave of destruction has drawn widespread condemnation and is viewed as part of a broader campaign to suppress Palestinian historical consciousness.
