Tehran Does Not Want Futile Protracted Negotiations Says Iranian Source

An Iranian source signaled Friday that Tehran is unwilling to engage in drawn-out diplomatic talks that yield no concrete results, raising fresh questions about the durability of the latest round of nuclear negotiations between Iran and the United States.

The source, cited by Al Jazeera Mubasher, stated that Tehran does not want to waste its time in futile and exhausting negotiations, a formulation that analysts say reflects mounting frustration within the Islamic Republic over the pace and substance of indirect talks that resumed in recent weeks through Omani mediation.

The statement comes as diplomats from Tehran and Washington have been meeting in Muscat in a renewed effort to reach an agreement that would limit Iran's nuclear activities in exchange for sanctions relief. The talks, the first of their kind in years, were widely welcomed by Gulf states including Qatar, which has long advocated for a diplomatic resolution to the Iranian nuclear file as a cornerstone of regional stability.

Qatar's position on the matter has been consistent: Doha supports any framework that de-escalates tensions in the Gulf and preserves the security architecture of the broader region. The country's leadership has maintained open lines of communication with Tehran even during periods of heightened regional tension, positioning Qatar as a potential facilitator should the talks require a mediating hand.

The Iranian signal carries particular weight given the tight timelines both sides have acknowledged. American officials have indicated that a framework agreement must be reached relatively quickly, while Iranian negotiators have pushed back against what they describe as maximalist demands that ignore Tehran's sovereign rights under international law.

The reference to exhausting negotiations is widely read in diplomatic circles as a warning that Iran could walk away from the table if it perceives the process as a delay tactic rather than a genuine effort toward a binding accord. Similar language preceded the collapse of earlier negotiating rounds in Vienna.

Gulf states are watching the talks closely. A failed negotiation risks a return to the escalatory cycle that periodically threatened shipping lanes in the Strait of Hormuz and rattled energy markets across the region. Qatar, as a major liquefied natural gas exporter, has a direct economic stake in ensuring the waterway remains open and secure.

No date has been set for the next round of talks, and both sides have cautioned against premature optimism. The Iranian source's remarks nonetheless served as a clear signal to Washington that Tehran expects tangible progress, not an indefinite process designed to manage rather than resolve the nuclear standoff.
