The Pakistani rupee lost most against the riyal since 2020, at +73.7% rupees per riyal

The World Bank series gives the riyal at 3.64 per US dollar in both 2020 and 2025. In these figures, any change in units per riyal therefore comes from the home-currency side. The rates are annual averages, not the rate any bank gave on any day, and the comparison is nominal: it carries no home-country inflation.

All 7 currencies lost value against the riyal between 2020 and 2025. The Pakistani rupee lost most: 44.46 rupees per riyal in 2020 and 77.24 in 2025, a move of +73.7%. The Sri Lankan rupee came next at +62.1%, from 50.99 to 82.65 per riyal. The Bangladeshi taka moved +43.7%, from 23.32 to 33.49 per riyal, and the Kenyan shilling moved +21.5%, from 29.24 to 35.52. The Indian rupee and the Nepalese rupee each moved +17.6%. The Philippine peso moved least at +15.9%.

This page compares the currencies on one basis between 2020 and 2025. It gives no live rates and no transfer fees.

The table lists all 7 currencies at 2025 average rates. Each conversion is nominal. It is a currency conversion only and says nothing about what the money covers at home.

The Philippine peso moved least, +15.9%, while the riyal's rate stayed at 3.64 per dollar

The Philippine peso moved least of the 7 currencies: 13.63 pesos per riyal in 2020 and 15.80 in 2025, a move of +15.9%. The Indian rupee was next at +17.6%, from 20.36 to 23.94 per riyal. The Nepalese rupee also moved +17.6%, from 32.51 to 38.22 per riyal.

None of the 7 currencies stayed flat. Even the smallest move, +15.9%, is a rise in pesos per riyal.

The riyal's side of the calculation is the same in both years. The World Bank series reads 3.64 riyals per US dollar in 2020 and in 2025. Units per riyal are worked out as local units per dollar divided by riyals per dollar for the same year. With the same divisor in both years, the differences between currencies in the chart come from the home-currency rates per dollar. The series does not say why those rates moved, and this page makes no claim about the reason.

The spread is wide: +15.9% at the low end and +73.7% at the high end, measured on annual averages.

Limits: annual averages, nominal conversion, no home prices, no daily rates

Several limits apply to every figure on this page.

  • Exchange rates are the World Bank's official rate, local currency units per US dollar, period average, for 2020 and 2025. They are annual averages, not daily rates.
  • The Qatar Central Bank daily rates could not be used, so no live or day-specific rate appears here.
  • Conversions are nominal. They use pay rounded to whole riyals and rates as printed to two decimals.
  • Prices and inflation in the home countries are not in the data, so the page makes no claim about what the converted amounts cover there.
  • Transfer fees and bank margins are not included.
  • Egypt is left out because the World Bank returned no usable series.
  • Pay levels are group averages from the National Planning Council occupation table. They are not individual salaries, and the members of a job group change over time.
  • No nationality data is used. The 7 currencies are shown for readers who send money to those countries.

The comparison runs from 2020 to 2025 and uses one basis for every currency.
