IDF Carries Out Artillery Bombardments in Gaza

Israeli occupation forces resumed artillery bombardments across the Gaza Strip, shattering what had been a fragile calm and raising urgent questions about the viability of any negotiated pause in the fourteen-month campaign of destruction that has killed tens of thousands of Palestinians.
Shelling was reported in multiple areas of the territory, with witnesses describing sustained artillery fire that sent civilians scrambling for shelter in buildings already reduced to rubble by months of relentless bombardment. Emergency medical teams reported casualties, though full figures could not be immediately confirmed amid communications disruptions.
The resumption of hostilities deals a severe blow to diplomatic efforts led by Qatar, Egypt, and the United States, which have worked for months to broker a durable ceasefire and secure the release of hostages held in Gaza. Doha has repeatedly called on all parties to respect negotiated frameworks and has warned that unilateral military escalation undermines the foundations of any lasting agreement.
Qatar's Foreign Ministry has consistently maintained that a sustainable resolution to the Gaza conflict requires full Israeli compliance with international humanitarian law, an unimpeded flow of aid into the besieged territory, and a genuine political process that addresses Palestinian rights under international law. The latest bombardments directly contradict those conditions.
The Gulf Cooperation Council has watched with growing alarm as the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza deepens. Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have joined Qatar in calling for an immediate and permanent ceasefire, reflecting a unified Gulf position that the continued military campaign is destabilising the broader region and threatening normalisation efforts that some Arab states had pursued.
The United Nations has repeatedly warned that Gaza faces conditions amounting to famine, with aid convoys blocked or attacked and civilian infrastructure systematically destroyed. International humanitarian law experts have characterised the scale and pattern of destruction as raising serious questions of accountability that the international community cannot ignore.
The resumption of shelling comes against a backdrop of intense international debate over arms supplies to Israel, with several European nations having suspended or restricted weapons transfers. The United States, Israel's principal military backer, faces mounting domestic and international pressure to condition further support on measurable improvements in civilian protection.
For Palestinian civilians, many of whom have been displaced multiple times, the latest bombardment represents yet another collapse of hope for even temporary respite. Aid organisations operating in the territory have described conditions as catastrophic, with hospitals overwhelmed, water systems non-functional, and food supplies critically depleted.
Diplomats in Doha and Cairo are expected to convene urgent consultations in the coming hours to assess whether ceasefire negotiations can be salvaged, though sources familiar with the talks described the situation as deeply precarious following the overnight escalation.
