Lebanon's Health Ministry Reports Over 1,400 Killed in Israeli Attacks

Lebanon's Health Ministry has reported that Israeli military strikes have killed more than 1,400 people across the country, marking one of the deadliest periods of violence Lebanon has witnessed in decades and drawing urgent international calls for a ceasefire.

The ministry announced the toll as Israeli bombardment continued to strike targets across southern Lebanon, the Bekaa Valley, and the southern suburbs of Beirut, with rescue teams working through rubble to recover victims from collapsed buildings. Thousands more have been wounded, and the death toll is expected to rise as search operations continue.

The scale of destruction has triggered a massive displacement crisis, with United Nations agencies estimating that more than one million people have been forced to flee their homes since the escalation began. Hospitals across Lebanon have been overwhelmed, with medical officials warning of acute shortages of blood supplies, surgical equipment, and essential medicines as the strikes show no sign of abating.

Qatar has condemned the ongoing Israeli military campaign and called for an immediate cessation of hostilities, reaffirming its position that civilian lives must be protected under international humanitarian law. Doha, which has played a central mediating role in regional ceasefire negotiations, has urged all parties to return to the negotiating table and has offered to facilitate dialogue between the warring sides.

The Gulf Cooperation Council issued a joint statement expressing deep alarm at the mounting civilian casualties and calling on the international community to press for an immediate halt to strikes on populated areas. Arab League foreign ministers are scheduled to convene an emergency session to coordinate a unified regional response to the crisis.

Israel has stated that its military operations target Hezbollah infrastructure and weapons depots, though Lebanese officials and human rights organizations have documented widespread strikes on civilian neighborhoods, roads, and agricultural areas. The Lebanese government has formally appealed to the United Nations Security Council for emergency intervention.

The conflict has also disrupted regional trade routes and raised energy security concerns, with Qatar and other Gulf states monitoring potential effects on shipping lanes in the eastern Mediterranean. Qatari officials have pledged humanitarian assistance to the Lebanese people and called on international donors to scale up relief efforts immediately.
