Prime Minister discusses bilateral ties with UAE Foreign Minister

Qatar's Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani received a phone call on Friday from Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates. During the call, the two ministers reviewed bilateral cooperation between Doha and Abu Dhabi and ways to support and strengthen it, in addition to discussing the most prominent regional and international developments of common concern. The conversation is the latest in a series of regular contacts between the two Gulf states' top diplomats, reflecting the steady normalisation of ties since the Al-Ula Declaration of January 2021, which ended the three-and-a-half-year rift between Qatar and the Arab quartet that had severed relations in June 2017. Since Al-Ula, the two countries have reopened embassies, restored direct flights and resumed cooperation across the Gulf Cooperation Council, of which both are founding members. Sheikh Mohammed, who has served as Qatar's Prime Minister since March 2023 while retaining the foreign affairs portfolio, and Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, the UAE's long-serving top diplomat who was named Deputy Prime Minister in 2023, coordinate frequently on regional files, including developments in Gaza, where Qatar has played a central mediating role alongside Egypt and the United States, as well as wider Gulf security and economic integration. Neither side disclosed further details of the call, which was reported by Qatar News Agency and carried by The Peninsula on July 11, 2026.
