Qatari Prime Minister Holds Phone Call with Egyptian Counterpart

Qatar's Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani held a phone call on Sunday with Egyptian Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, the Qatar News Agency reported, as the two officials reviewed bilateral relations and coordinated positions on pressing regional files topping the Arab agenda.
The call touched on cooperation between Doha and Cairo across political, economic and investment tracks, with both sides expressing keenness to deepen the strategic partnership that has expanded steadily since the restoration of full diplomatic ties following the 2021 Al-Ula declaration. The two prime ministers also exchanged views on developments in the Gaza Strip and the broader Middle East, where Qatar and Egypt have served as the principal Arab mediators in indirect negotiations between Hamas and Israel.
Doha and Cairo have together brokered successive ceasefire frameworks since the war on Gaza began, including the prisoner-hostage exchange tracks and the humanitarian protocols governing aid flows through the Rafah crossing. Officials in both capitals have warned in recent weeks that any collapse of the current truce arrangements would carry catastrophic humanitarian consequences for the more than two million Palestinians in the enclave, the vast majority of whom remain displaced and dependent on international assistance.
The Qatari side reiterated the State of Qatar's firm position on the centrality of the Palestinian cause and the need for a comprehensive political horizon based on the two-state solution and relevant United Nations resolutions. Sheikh Mohammed has repeatedly stressed in international forums that mediation efforts must be paired with binding guarantees to halt the fighting permanently, secure the entry of unimpeded humanitarian aid, and pave the way for reconstruction.
Economic ties were also on the agenda. Qatar is among the largest Gulf investors in Egypt, with sovereign deposits and direct investments exceeding several billion dollars in sectors spanning real estate, hospitality, telecoms and energy. Cairo has been seeking expanded Gulf capital inflows to ease pressure on its foreign currency reserves and support its broader economic reform programme agreed with the International Monetary Fund.
The phone call comes amid intensified Arab diplomatic activity ahead of upcoming regional summits, where the Gaza file, Sudan, Lebanon, and the future of post-war governance arrangements are expected to dominate discussions. Qatari officials have signalled that Doha will continue to coordinate closely with Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and the Palestinian Authority to push for a unified Arab position. Both prime ministers concluded the call by affirming their commitment to ongoing consultation on issues of mutual concern and to advancing the brotherly relations between the two countries and their peoples.
