Trump Shares Video of Alleged Strike on Tehran

US President Donald Trump on Friday shared what he described as footage of a strike on Tehran, claiming that senior Iranian military commanders had been "terminated" in what would mark a dramatic and dangerous escalation in tensions between Washington and the Islamic Republic.

Trump posted the video without immediate official corroboration from the Pentagon or US Central Command, and Iranian state media had not confirmed any attack on the capital as of the time of publication. The claims, broadcast widely across social media and international news channels, sent shockwaves through diplomatic circles already on edge over months of rising hostility between the two countries.

The alleged strike, if confirmed, would represent one of the most significant military actions involving the United States and Iran in decades, surpassing even the 2020 killing of General Qassem Soleimani in Baghdad. Iranian officials have not yet issued an official statement, and independent verification of the footage shared by Trump remained impossible in the immediate aftermath.

For the Gulf region, the implications of any direct US military action against Iranian soil are profound. Qatar, which hosts the Al Udeid Air Base — the largest US military installation in the Middle East — would find itself at the nexus of any regional fallout. Doha has long pursued a careful policy of maintaining open diplomatic channels with Tehran while hosting American forces, a delicate balance that any confirmed military strike would place under severe strain.

Gulf Cooperation Council states have in recent months urged diplomatic resolution to the standoff between Washington and Tehran over Iran's nuclear programme and missile capabilities. Qatar's foreign ministry has consistently called for dialogue and the avoidance of any action that could destabilise the region, a position that carries particular weight given the country's geographic proximity to Iran across the waters of the Arabian Gulf.

The international community reacted with alarm to Trump's posts, with several European governments calling for restraint and immediate clarification from Washington. The United Nations Security Council was expected to be convened in an emergency session if the strike is officially confirmed.

Oil prices surged in early trading following the social media posts, reflecting market fears that a conflict involving Iran could disrupt shipping lanes through the Strait of Hormuz — a chokepoint through which roughly a fifth of the world's oil supply passes daily and through which Qatar exports the bulk of its liquefied natural gas.

Qatar Standard will continue to monitor developments. Officials in Doha, Washington, and Tehran had not responded to requests for comment at the time of publication.
