How we got here

  • April 6: Egypt Independent and Morocco World News both reported that the first session of the Joint Coordination and Follow-up Committee was held in Cairo on this date. Egypt Independent said it was held under the co-chairmanship of the two countries' prime ministers, while Morocco World News said it was held under their chairmanship. Abdel Latif said its outcomes reflected a shared commitment to deeper economic ties through trade, joint investment, industrial integration and cooperation in transport and logistics.
  • October 30: Morocco World News reported that Abdel Latif and Tazi-Riffi met on this date. Abdel Latif highlighted Egypt's industrial and production capabilities and its recent progress in infrastructure and transportation, according to both outlets. Tazi-Riffi presented Tanger Med's model linking port operations with industrial zones and logistics services, the outlets reported.
  • April 2027: Morocco World News, citing the Royal Cabinet, reported that a second container terminal at the Nador West Med port complex is scheduled to enter service in this month, adding another 1.8 million containers in annual capacity. The outlet said King Mohammed VI chaired a working meeting at the Royal Palace in Rabat earlier in the week of the Tanger Med talks to review the complex and plans for Tanger Med 3. It said the Royal Cabinet put investment in Nador West Med at MAD 54 billion ($5.4 billion), and that Tanger Med 3, a MAD 8 billion ($800 million) project, would add an annual handling capacity of 4.5 million containers.
