Oxford Palestine Solidarity Campaign to march in support of banned Palestine Action

The Oxford Palestine Solidarity Campaign is due to march through Oxford from Manzil Way to the Clarendon Building at 12.30pm today, October 31, in support of Palestine Action, a group banned under the Terrorism Act. Oxford Mail reported that the march is part of coordinated demonstrations in London and Edinburgh. The newspaper also reported that the Metropolitan Police have warned that anyone attending such protests could be arrested.

What we know

  • Oxford Mail reported that the protests are organised by Defend Our Juries in support of Palestine Action, which was banned under the Terrorism Act in June 2025.
  • According to Oxford Mail, some 400 protesters are expected outside the US embassy in Nine Elms, London, and another demonstration is scheduled for the US consulate near Holyrood in Edinburgh.
  • Oxford Mail reported that Defend Our Juries has stated protesters will hold signs saying, "I oppose genocide, I support Palestine Action."
  • Oxford Mail reported that the Metropolitan Police said people attending could be arrested whether or not they are carrying placards, and that expressing support for the group is an offence under the Terrorism Act.
  • According to Oxford Mail, Commander Adam Slonecki of Scotland Yard said anyone officers consider to be organising the event, instructing others or providing logistical support will very likely be committing an offence and face enforcement action.
  • Oxford Mail reported that the protests come ahead of an appeal at the Supreme Court against Palestine Action's designation as a terror group on November 4, after five Court of Appeal judges said in June that the ban was a justified and proportionate interference with freedom of expression rights.

What we don't know yet

  • Oxford Mail does not say how many people are expected to take part in the Oxford march. The 400 figure it gives relates to the London protest.
  • The newspaper does not say whether any arrests have been made or will be made at the Oxford march. The police warning it cites was issued by the Metropolitan Police.
  • The outcome of the Supreme Court appeal against the designation, listed for November 4, is not reported.
