Qatar Condemns Bombing Targeting Security Checkpoint in Pakistan

Qatar has condemned a bombing that targeted a security checkpoint in Pakistan, according to a statement carried by the Qatar News Agency (QNA). The initial report did not give the exact location of the attack, the number of casualties, or who was responsible. No group had been publicly named in connection with the bombing at the time of the Qatari statement.

Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs routinely issues statements on attacks of this kind. In them, Doha states that it rejects violence and terrorism whatever the motives, and it offers condolences to the families of victims and to the government and people of the affected country.

Pakistani police and paramilitary checkpoints have been frequent targets of militant attacks in recent years, particularly in the provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. Pakistani authorities have blamed much of the violence in the northwest on Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Baloch separatist groups have carried out attacks on security forces in the southwest. Islamabad has repeatedly accused Afghanistan's Taliban government of allowing TTP fighters to operate from Afghan territory, a charge Kabul denies.

Qatar has played a direct diplomatic role in this dispute. In October 2025, after deadly border clashes between Pakistan and Afghanistan, Doha hosted talks between the two sides. With Turkish support, those talks produced a ceasefire agreement, followed by further rounds of negotiation. Qatar has also hosted the Afghan Taliban's political office for years and mediated the 2020 Doha Agreement between the Taliban and the United States.

Qatar and Pakistan have close bilateral ties. Qatar is one of Pakistan's main suppliers of liquefied natural gas under long-term supply agreements signed in 2016 and 2021. A large Pakistani community lives and works in Qatar. Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani made an official visit to Islamabad in 2019, and the two countries have since expanded cooperation in energy, labour, and investment.
