Verstappen raises concerns over F1 races in Qatar and Abu Dhabi

Max Verstappen has raised concerns over Formula 1's scheduled races in Qatar and Abu Dhabi, as regional tensions prompt questions about whether the Gulf rounds can go ahead as planned. The reigning-era Red Bull driver's remarks come amid reports that the sport is weighing contingency options for the end of its 2026 season.

According to the reports available, F1 has a deadline of 10 November tied to a possible alternative European finale at Imola. If the Gulf races were affected, that deadline could leave the Las Vegas Grand Prix as the last race of the season. The same coverage points to speculation fuelled by a holiday involving Verstappen and Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff, and to F1 confirming an alternative European option. The details of any final calendar change have not been confirmed, and no official decision to cancel or move either Gulf race has been announced.

The Qatar Grand Prix is held at the Lusail International Circuit north of Doha, and the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at the Yas Marina Circuit, which has traditionally closed the season. Qatar's agreement to host Formula 1 runs to 2032, which makes any change to its date a matter of national and commercial importance as well as a sporting one.

For Qatar-based fans and ticket holders, the key signals to watch are statements from Formula 1, the FIA and the Qatar organisers, along with any guidance on safety and ticketing. Teams and drivers are expected to follow official security assessments before travel plans are finalised.
