Iranian President Thanks Qatari Emir for Mediating Interim US Agreement

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian thanked Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani for Doha's support of the diplomatic effort that produced an interim agreement between Iran and the United States, in a phone call on Thursday. The two leaders spoke a day after the deal, signed Wednesday, ended more than 100 days of conflict in the Middle East. Pezeshkian expressed appreciation for Qatar's role in promoting de-escalation in the region and global stability, while Sheikh Tamim reaffirmed Qatar's support for resolving disputes through diplomacy. The accord, titled the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America, was brokered with Pakistan as the primary mediator and sent to the US Congress on Thursday. The 14-point document opens a 60-day window for negotiations covering Tehran's nuclear program, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the lifting of the US blockade on Iranian ports. The exchange adds to Qatar's record as a regional intermediary, having previously hosted talks involving the United States, Iran and other parties to the conflict.
