Israeli Forces Escalate Attacks on Northern West Bank Towns, Burn Vehicles and Damage Infrastructure

Israeli forces stormed several towns in the northern occupied West Bank, setting fire to three civilian vehicles and severing electricity supplies to residents in a raid that Palestinian witnesses describe as a deliberate assault on daily life rather than a targeted security action. Troops moved through residential areas overnight, opened fire toward homes, and damaged power infrastructure, leaving households without electricity for hours.

The incident is the latest in a monthslong escalation across the northern West Bank, where Israeli forces have carried out near-continuous raids on towns and refugee camps including Jenin, Tulkarm and Nour Shams since early 2023, intensifying sharply after the war in Gaza began in October 2023. The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has repeatedly documented widespread demolition of homes, destruction of roads and water networks, and the displacement of thousands of Palestinian families during these operations, which Israel says target militant infrastructure but which rights groups and residents describe as collective punishment.

Qatar has been among the most vocal Gulf states condemning Israeli military actions in the West Bank, repeatedly calling on the international community and the UN Security Council to intervene to protect Palestinian civilians and uphold international humanitarian law. Doha, which hosts Hamas's political office and has played a central mediating role in Gaza ceasefire negotiations, has stressed that any lasting resolution to the conflict must also address the deteriorating situation in the West Bank, where settler violence and military incursions have surged since the Gaza war began.

No casualties were immediately reported from the vehicle burnings, though local residents said repairs to the damaged electricity network would take time, leaving affected neighborhoods without power.
