Doctors Without Borders: Israel 'Progressively Asphyxiating' Gaza

Doctors Without Borders (Médecins Sans Frontières, MSF) has warned that Israel is "progressively asphyxiating" Gaza and continuing what the organisation describes as genocide, according to a report published by Middle East Monitor on 5 October 2026. The medical charity points to a worsening humanitarian collapse in the Palestinian territory.
MSF has worked in Gaza for decades, running hospitals, clinics and emergency services alongside the Palestinian health system. Its staff therefore see the effects of restrictions on medicine, fuel, food and other essential supplies first-hand. The phrase "progressively asphyxiating" describes a gradual tightening of conditions for civilians rather than a single event. The organisation's warning adds to repeated appeals by aid agencies and UN bodies for unrestricted humanitarian access and for the protection of medical facilities and health workers.
The claim that Israel is committing genocide is contested by the Israeli government, which rejects the accusation. It has also been raised in proceedings before the International Court of Justice, brought by South Africa. Rights groups and several UN experts have used similar language.
Qatar has been one of the main mediators in the Gaza conflict, alongside Egypt and the United States. It took part in the ceasefire diplomacy of October 2025 and has repeatedly called for aid to enter Gaza without obstruction. Doha has also funded relief and reconstruction efforts. MSF's latest warning therefore bears directly on the mediation track in which Qatar remains involved.
