Northern Israeli residents doubt Trump-brokered Lebanon ceasefire will deter Hezbollah

Residents of northern Israel doubt that a US-brokered ceasefire in Lebanon will be enough to neutralise the threat posed by Hezbollah, according to a report published by the Jerusalem Post. The Israeli newspaper said people living in communities near the Lebanese border told it they remain uneasy about the durability of the truce, which the report credited to mediation by US President Donald Trump, and questioned whether it would be enforced on the ground. According to the report, residents complained of continuing economic hardship, with some businesses still struggling and a number of families having yet to return to homes they left during the fighting. The newspaper said those it spoke to expressed scepticism that the agreement would prevent Hezbollah from rebuilding its capabilities along the frontier. The claims, attributed to interviews carried by Israeli media, could not be independently verified, and the report reflected the perspective of northern Israeli communities rather than an official assessment. Lebanon and Hezbollah have previously rejected Israeli characterisations of the ceasefire's terms. The border between Lebanon and Israel has seen repeated escalation over the past period, with the truce intended to halt cross-border exchanges.
